    Organic cotton

    Ajna's Organic Material

Ajna's organic cotton is different from ordinary cotton: Starting from its sowing, no unnatural substances will be used in its production. All cotton seeds used on the plantations are purely natural and never genetically modified. No chemical crop protection products – so-called pesticides – are used on the plants. Right down to the hand picking of the crops, the manufacturing of the organic cotton we are using is certified organic along the whole value chain.

    Save Water with Organic Cotton

Instead of common insecticides, the farmers that grow our cotton do not use biocides. Also the fertilizers they use are completely natural, like forest soil or cow manure. Natural fertilizers protect the ground because they retain water and keep it moist. This benefits the surrounding biota and helps keeping the drinking water clean. Overall, organic cotton farming causes 98% less groundwater pollution than the cultivation of conventional cotton. And because it doesn't need to be washed and cleaned from chemicals after its harvesting, the production of organic cotton uses up less water further down the production chain as well.

    Organic cottons protects the health

During the production of organic cotton, no one's health is endangered. Organic cotton farmers need not worry about getting dangerous chemicals into their body through their lungs or skin. This distinguishes them from more than 77 million workers of the common cotton industry that suffer from pesticide poisoning every year.

    Less CO2 in the Atmosphere

Thanks to the lack of chemicals in organic cotton production, 94% less greenhouse gas is entering the atmosphere compared to ordinary cotton farming.

Fair and Organic: Up and Coming

Ajna organic cotton is special, because it belongs to the 1% of organic cotton that is available worldwide. Through mindful consumption, customers of organic cotton ensure that more and more cotton will be grown eco-friendly. During the past year alone, the demand for organic cotton has increased by about 10%.

A large part of the organic cotton is also traded fair, as it is the case for the cotton we use. This ensures that organic cotton farmers receive good payment for their efforts. Oftentimes, organic cotton is farmed on small farms that work with local resources in a sustainable fashion. Unlike large corporations, small farm owners are interested in preserving their local flora and fauna – not least because many of them plant their family food in the same soil. Like this, organic cotton production even contributes to food security and healthy diets.
